Jalgaon (जळगाव) is a city in western India, in northern Maharashtra state, Jalgaon District on the northern Deccan Plateau. Located within the productive, irrigated agricultural region of Khandesh, Jalgaon is municipal corporation. Formerly part of territory controlled by the Holkar family of Maratha rulers, Jalgaon became part of British India's Bombay Presidency in 1818 and of independent India in 1947.
Modern Jalgaon now boasts of vast industrial area, educational institutes and good hospitals. The city is well developed with good roads, shopping centres, residential areas, with good infrastructure in communication and transport.jalgaon is near the world famous ajanta.
Jalgaon has got pretty diverse climate. It is exceptionally hot and dry during summer with temperature reaching as high as 47 degrees Celsius. Jalgaon receives about 700 mm rainfall during monsoons, which is followed by pleasant temperature in winter.

Jalgaon is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 209 metres ( feet).
The city is served by several major rail lines with routes to Mumbai, Nagpur, Delhi and Surat. It lies on national highway 6 connecting it to Surat and Kolkata.
The Ajanta Caves are located about 64 km (about 40 mi) to the south of Jalgaon, and the Yaval Wildlife Sanctuary is about 32 km (about 20 mi) to the north.

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Jalgaon had a population of 368,579. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Jalgaon has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 71%. In Jalgaon, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age. Jalgaon district's soil is very very fertile for the Banana. In the whole India Jalgaon knows by the city of Banana's.

Jalgaon, known as BANANA CAPITAL OF INDIA has much more than just Bananas. As you enter Jalgaon city through railway station, the first and most amazing thing that you will see is Jalgaon Municipal Corporation building of 17 floors. Adjoining this huge complex is the Golani complex with more than 500 shops and flats. As you pass cross Mahatma Gandhi road towards tower, you will find Phule market. Phule market is well known retail market for clothing, cosmetic, and almost all consumable items. Further is one of Jalgaon's important market known as Dana Bazaar, wholesale market for food grains. Next to it, that is after crossing Subhash chowk, you'll enter the market of Jewelery (Saraf bazaar). Jalgoan is one of biggest Jewelery markets in Maharashtra and famous for its Gold quality and designs. Beside Jewelery market, we have construction, Hardware and Paints market (Bohri gully).
