Janet Maslin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Janet Maslin (b. 1948) is a book critic for The New York Times. She was previously a longtime film critic (1977-1999) for the Times. She began her career as a rock music critic for Boston Phoenix and Rolling Stone. She graduated from the University of Rochester in 1970 with a B.A. degree and a major in mathematics.
Although Maslin has been criticized for being too "forgiving, often to a fault" [1] as a film critic, she has been on balance highly influential and respected.
Maslin once dated the film director and producer Steven Spielberg. She married fellow rock critic Jon Landau and then novelist Benjamin Cheever, son of the writer John Cheever.
