Jean Guitton (Mayor)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jean Guitton was the mayor of the city La Rochelle during the 1627-1628 Siege of La Rochelle.
He is famous for vowing to defend the city to the death, against Catholic Royal forces. The scene is still visible today in the City Hall (Hotel de Ville) of La Rochelle, where a marble table with a chip made by his dagger is on display.
