[edit] Moved from article
I have moved these sections from the article as they do not seem to relate to the subject directly and instead go in to too much detail about his work. Furthermore they need work to improve the tone and style if there are to be re-added. Rich257 13:30, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Something thrown
Intuitive Hypertextual fashion means that this discourse is not based upon classical way to use an electronic encyclopaedia.
For instance, an hypertextual link does not carry out invariably on the same content: the history of the reading varies its direction but also its meaning, its reference and so on... It depends mainly on time and courses of reading in progress.
In fact, Metabole means that something has been thrown… Perhaps the cord? Perhaps the PC in itself... Tablet PCs equipped with 3G mobile card are changing the way we use Hypertextual. They’ll continue to do so and in more ways than we’re currently envisioning. Anyway, something has actually been thrown over the position it would have been thrown into the original Text: a real new way of reading and writing texts on line, a grouping of electronic metatexts, photos, videos and sampling music which can be considered as an philosophical entity. [edit] Reading
Using a digital pen, users can write or read directly on the screen and save their course of reading in their own handwriting or convert them to typed text for input into other applications.
Personal recognition is an integral component of every Metabolean path, allowing users to control their content or invent applications with their preferences. If changes between nodes occurred randomly and invisibly at suitable points, the reader would experience a seemingly unified text, but each path would be different. The significance of the sequences would thus change from reading to reading without the reader actually knowing how or in exactly what way it has changed. The powerful sense of defamiliarization that metabole’s sense achieves, its ability to make the common seem suddenly strange and alien, is one which might be usefully re-conceived in terms of an electronic hypertext.
[edit] Cultural studies
As hypertextual application developers, we maintain that the manipulation of temporal dimension is one of the main issues to be discussed when speaking about hypertext literature. Contrary to StorySpace experience, we argue that in hypertext Fiction or hyper Essay, it is possible to consider reading time, to delay reading time, to restrict a reading period and that text can “live”, change after a certain period… All datas concerning time are recorded and allows to determine the most relevant course of reading for the e-reader.
Also, the boundaries of the literature and philosophy itself can be explored relative with the question of time. In an hypertext, we could evoke some ontological questions about literature: what is literature? Is it a narrative? Is it a written text? What about on-line philosophy ? Moreover, what is rare, may become desirable.
[edit] Mobile
In a Metabolean way, creative literary and philosophical thinking is not separated from creative technological thinking. As a matter of fact, it is much more convenient to read a text from a small display, which you can hold on your lap when you lay comfortably on the couch. The best opportunity is an e-book with a permanent wireless Internet-connection.
Tablet PCs are the newest generation of mobile computers. Tablet PCs provide all the power of a standard Microsoft Windows-based notebook plus additional features that improve mobility including pen-input, light form-factors, and handwriting and speech recognition. These enhancements increase the number of ways people can use e-books for practical and creative work.
Imagine opening up your notebook computer at the Café shop and having it wirelessly connect itself to your network at 11 megabits per second. Then, you pack up your notebook, drive home, and upon arrival open it up again to have it attach itself to your wireless cable modem network. The only time you'll ever have to tether your notebook to the hypertextual base is to occasionally recharge the battery!
[edit] Machine
Tablet PC is a lightweight version of a PC in the shape of a flat panel. User interact with it by tapping the screen and hand-writing with a penlike device. Tablet PCs will also let users wirelessly connect to the Internet and other PCs. In a word, a Tablet PC combines the mobility of a handheld computer with the computing power of a e-book.
