From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jeffry House is a lawyer in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He has represented most of the American soldiers applying for refugee status in Canada after refusing to continue their service in the American military.
The most well-known of these American soldiers seeking refugee status are Jeremy Hinzman, Brandon Hughey, and Joshua Key. The cases of Jeremy Hinzman and Brandon Hughey have been heard by the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Board, refused again at the Federal Court of Canada, and have been granted leave to appeal to the Federal Court of Appeal. Their cases will be heard jointly in the spring or early summer of 2007.
Jeffry House graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1969 and grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
House was conscripted into the US Armed Forces during the Vietnam War. In January 1970, House left Wisconsin to go to Canada and became a draft evader.
House graduated from the Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and has practiced criminal law for nearly three decades.
The presence of US Army deserters in Canada is being widely reported in the international news media, as well as in Canada and in the United States. During the Vietnam War, upwards of 50,000 US draft evaders and military deserters found refuge in Canada.
Jeffry is the father of Canadian actor Alex House.
