[edit] BIOGRAPHY
Born in the Philippines to a Spanish father from Spain and a Filipina mother, Jella was adopted right after birth.[1] She began her career as a professional singer at the age of 14 singing in hotels. Although her adoptive mom died when she was ten, she remained undaunted even if her adoptive dad was too sick to care for her. An only child, she took it upon herself to provide for herself and her adoptive father through singing. While in high school, she won as a Musicmate Girl 1993, a nationwide star search sponsored by Yamaha Music Philippines. It was the same annual star search that produced several Kims of Miss Saigon musicals all over the world and recording stars in the Philippines. She also won best actress awards playing lead on regional school drama fests while she was in junior & senior high. She topped the college scholarship exam sponsored by Senator Magnolia Antonino so she can go to Wesleyan University of the Philippines as a Mass Communications student in their province, but instead decided to move to Manila to pursue her singing career. The college scholarship went to her classmate, who scored the 2nd highest in the exam and Jella was glad she was able to help, as she voluntarily surrendered her scholarship in exchange for a life of uncertainty in Manila. In college, she sang in bars at nights and goes to the university by day, going to school as a working student. After getting her degree in Communication Arts, she pursued her music career further by working as an associate producer & self-produced her album which later on got her a record deal with VIVA Records, a major independent label in the Philippines. Her other credits include backing vocals for Anna Fegi's song You & I from Anna's debut album under BMG Records Philippines. She also appeared as a video jock for a Philippine pop teen group's music video & was judge & guest artist at the Mariah Carey Rainbow Concert Promo at Takashimaya Square in Singapore.
At 24, Jella moved to Los Angeles, California and took some acting classes & opened a web development & database programming company Jonathan Hatchery System [2] and an online perfume store Sweet Kiss Cosmetics and Perfumery [3] , selling designer fragrances, which started out as an Ebay store. She also maintains her official website jella.com [4]
Though she self-studied computer programming & graphic design in college, she took a web design workshop from the Los Angeles City College. Jella is a huge Mariah Carey fan. She currently lives in Hollywood with her husband and children. Her husband Jon, is a computer programmer and network administrator and CEO of Jonathan Hatchery System, a company they set up and currently manage.
