Jerome Barkum was a wide receiver as well as tight end in the NFL. He played 12 years with New York Jets. He was drafted by the Jets from Jackson State University in 1972. He was the 9th overall pick in the first round. In 1973, he was selected to the Pro Bowl as a WR. His biggest catch in the NFL was made in Shea Stadium in a 1981 clash against the Miami Dolphins in the last seconds of the game to lift the Jets to victory 16-15. "Jerome Barkum is a reliable, clutch receiver". "Jerome is a guy that all of the players look up to", Walton said. "He makes very few mistakes and comes up with key plays". "He was often looked upon in crucial situation". When the game is on the line, you look for sure handed Barkum". The Jets made the playoffs that year for the first time since their Super Bowl victory on January 12, 1969.
Jerome Barkum is retired from the NFL. Currently he owns an online travel business Jerome Barkum Discount Travel http://www.ytb.com/jeromebarkumtravel. He also shares ownership of a patented technology in a one piece aerosol and food can. These cans are made with 40% less steel. The food can is eco-safe. If the food has gone bad in the can, it rocks on the shelf allowing the merchant to pull the bad food from the shelf before it gets into the customer's hands. The patented cans are now licensed in China and New Zealand. For enjoyment he performs in his percussion ensemble band that plays to smooth jazz. There are 5 members in the group. They are called, the SunsetGroovers. sunsetgroovers@gmail.com
