Jill Jackson (born in Scotland), is a British singer-songwriter and guitarist. Her material includes rock, folk and alternative country music.
[edit] Career
Coming from a musical family in Paisley, Jackson started playing guitar at the age of nine and wrote her first song at eleven. By the age of fifteen she was performing professionally with a country band.
In 2003, the confident and strikingly photogenic Jackson attracted wider interest as lead vocalist of the Scottish pop-rock group Speedway, which she had formed with Jim Duguid when she was twenty. Although well-received by the British press [1], Speedway had limited chart success, and split up in 2004.
Jackson then wrote the material for an acoustic solo album, and toured with it in support of Nashville singer-songwriter Kevin Montgomery. At one appearance at London's The Bedford in 2005, she was supported by Cornish singer-songwriter Alex Parks.
In early 2006 Jackson formed a songwriting duo called Jackson and Cassidy with Irish singer-songwriter and ex-South Beach member Gianna Cassidy. The pair have toured Scotland, Ireland and England.
In late 2006 Jackson released her first solo album, and has continued to perform across the UK as a solo artist.
[edit] Musical influences
Jackson has cited her main musical influences as Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, Shelby Lynne, the Rolling Stones and Joni Mitchell.
