Joe Kernen

Joe Kernen is a CNBC news anchor, featured throughout the business day on CNBC’s "Squawk Box," "Morning Call," "Power Lunch with Bill Griffeth and Sue Herera," and "Closing Bell with Maria Bartiromo." Kernen's segments cover stories behind stock price moves and industry trends, especially in biotech and pharmaceutical stocks. His nickname is "The Hair", due to previous rumors that his hair was actually a toupee, and his frequent humorous references to it.

Kernen came to CNBC in the 1991 merger with Financial News Network, having joined FNN after a 10-year career as a stockbroker.
Kernen grew up in the Western Hills section of Cincinnati, graduating from St. Xavier High School in 1974. He holds a bachelor degree from the University of Colorado and a master’s degree in molecular biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he worked on cancer research.
He currently resides in Short Hills, New Jersey.
