King's School is a primary school for boys from Years 1 (5-years-old) to 8 (13-years-old). It is situated in Auckland, New Zealand, and it also has strong links to the Anglican church; the Anglican Bishop of Auckland and the Dean of Auckland are permanent members of the school's Board Of Governors. It also admitted boarding students until 1991.
The school also encorporates a house system with six separate houses; this system is used for sports competition and friendly rivalry among the students and staff alike. They include Averill House (named after Archbishop of New Zealand Averill), Bruce House (named after founder of King's College Graham Bruce), Major House (named after the first Headmaster of King's Thomas Major), Marsden House (named after the first Anglican missionary to New Zealand Rev. Samuel Marsden), Morris House (named after second Headmaster John Morris), and Selwyn House (named after Archbishop of New Zealand George Augustus Selwyn). Each house, in conjunction to the school colour of maroon, also has an corresponding colour:
- Averill - Yellow
- Bruce - Royal Blue
- Major - Red
- Marsden - Cambridge Blue
- Morris - Brown
- Selwyn - Green
King's School was founded by Graham Bruce in 1896 as King's College, Auckland, but after the College left to its present site in Otahuhu, the School was established in 1922 in the College's former site, and Thomas Major was established as its first Headmaster. The current Headmaster is Tony Sissons.
