Kings, Kings Deck, King's Cup, King of Cups, Circle of Death, Ring of Fire, Waterfall, Sociables or Categories is a popular drinking game similar to Circle of Death. It uses a standard deck of playing cards. The deck of cards are shuffled and spread down on a table, usually in a circle. In some variations, a cup is placed in the center of the table. The play goes around the table with each player drawing one card at a time. Each card has a different action associated with it, which are listed below.

Start by taking deck of cards and spreading it a circle around an empty cup.^[1]

[edit] "Number" cards

Cards with numbers two-eight (2-8) are worth their face value in drinks.

• 2-8 Black: "Pass-out" - The player must pass out the face amount in drinks to other player(s).
• 2-8 Red: "Red to the Head" - The player must take that amount of drinks (sips) him/herself.^[2]

Cards nine (9) to Ace (A) are all special cards. The color of the card does not matter, and neither does the suit.^[3]

• Nine (9): "Rhyme Time" - The player must pick a word/phrase, and, going clockwise around the circle, all players must think of a rhyme with the word/phrace. The player to mess up the rhyme drinks. ^[4]

• Ten (10): "Categories" - The player must choose any type of category, and everyone has to say something in that category without repeating what someone has already said.^[5]

• Jack (J): "Rule" - The player must choose a rule to be in effect for the rest of the game. If any player breaks a rule, he/she must drink.^[6]

• Queen (Q): "Questions" - The player must asks any other player a random question, then, that person has to ask someone else another random question, and it goes on and on until a player either says something that isn't a question or he/she can't say anything because he/she is laughing. ^[7]

• King (K): "King Cup" - The player may pour a decent amount of whatever he/she is drinking into the "king cup" located in the center of the table. When the last (4th) king is chosen, the chooser has to chug the king cup.^[8]

• Ace (A): "Waterfall" - All players begin to drink at the same time. It goes clockwise around the circle where the player next to the card-chooser cannot stop until the chooser does, and the 3rd player cannot stop until the 2nd one does, and so it goes around the circle until everyone is done. ^[9]

[edit] Variant rules

There are probably as many variants of Kings as there are groups who play the game. Many of the rules for the "Special Cards" are mixed around.

For example, in some circles, four {4} is "Whores" (women drink), and six (6) is "Dicks" (men drink).^[10] Another value is, then, assigned to 5.

"Thumbmaster", where players put their thumbs on the table after the card-chooser does, can be used for several different cards, but, most commonly, five (5) and seven (7). The same goes for "Social" (everyone drinks).

Also, in some variations, player place a full can or bottle of beer in the center of the circle of cards, as each card is drawn it is placed on the full beer. The first person to place a card on top of the beer and knock off the cards has to chug the bull beer.^[11]

• "Screw You" - Nominate someone to take 2 drinks.

• "Three's Company" - Social. Everyone takes a drink.
• "Buzz" - In a clockwise fashion beginning with the card-drawer, each person says the next number in the natural number series starting with one. However, if the number is a multiple of seven or eleven, or has a seven in it such as 37, the person must say "buzz" instead of the number. For example, the first person says "1", the second says "2"...3, 4, 5, 6, buzz, 8, 9, 10, buzz, 12, 13, buzz, etc. Play continues until someone makes a mistake in the series and consequently drinks.
• Screw Me - Person who turned the card takes 3 drinks.

• "Hands of the Floor" - Everyone puts a hand on the floor, the last person to do so has to drink. This rule is a nice equaliser since often the people with the comfiest seats have the hardest times putting their hands on the floor.

• "I am Spartacus!" - The person who draws this card is "Spartacus". At any point from then, that person can stand up and shout "I am Spartacus!", at which point everyone else must do the same. The last person to stand up and shout "I am Spartacus!" takes the designated penalty drink. Drawing another Spartacus card before the previous one is used nullifies the first Spartacus, i.e. there can only be one Spartacus at any point in the game.
• "Hand Jive" - Make a gesture, then point to someone. They repeat the gesture, add one of their own, and point to someone else. First person to make a mistake in repeating the sequence drinks.
• "Word Association" - This is similar to "Categories". The drawer says any noun and the person to the left of him or her must say a word that relates in some way to the previous word. Play continues clockwise until someone either cannot think of a similar word or says a word that is considered "too far off" by the other players; this person drinks. An example goes: "blue", "orange", "banana", "monkey," etc.
• "Touch the Sky" - Everyone must raise their hand. The last person to get their hand up must drink.
• "Floor" - All players must put their thumb on the floor or the table, and the last to do so drinks.
• "Lies" - The drawer must state a phrase such as 'I have been skydiving.' Then each other player says whether this is a lie or truth. Whoever is wrong drinks and if everyone at the table is correct in a unanimous right/wrong decision then the drawer drinks one drink for the number of players

• "Mix"/"Flicks" - The drawer says the name of a song title (or movie title) and then the next person must say a song/movie title playing off one of the words in the previous title. Generally words like 'A', 'The', 'Of' etc are out of play. For example, I start with 'All You Need is Love,' the next person may say 'All Shook Up,' next could be 'You Shook Me All Night Long,' and so on. Whoever can't come up with a song/movie title in a reasonable amount of time drinks.

• "Seven-Eleven" - The person who picks the card names one item available at 7-11 (hot dogs for example). The next player must name what each player before him named plus a new item (2nd player, "hot dogs, beer." 3rd player "hot dogs, beer, condoms.") Whoever cannot recite the entire list correctly drinks.
• "Heaven" - Opposite of "floor". Last player to throw their hands in the air drinks.
• "Sentence" - The player who draws the card says a word, then the next player says the first word and a word of their own, the third player adds on to the sentence by saying the previous two words and their own third word, and so on. The first person to mess up drinks.

• "Pick a date" - Choose a person from the table to be your "date". This person must then drink whenever you have to drink
• "Hate" - Pick another player, that person must drink until you tell them to stop. If the player finishes their drink before being told to then the person who picked the card must drink until told to stop.
• "Dare" - Dare another player to do something. If they won't, they drink (generally more than once).

• "Rhyme or Reason" - Similar to "Bust-a-Rhyme," except a related word may be given instead of a rhyme. For instance, "cat" could be followed by "bat" or "meow." This is generally played at a very fast pace.
• "Suck and Blow" - The card choose starts by placing the card on his mouth and sucking in to make it 'hover'. He/she then passes it to the person next to them by giving them a kiss. This means the other person will now have the card on their lips and can start sucking in while simutaneously the previous person starts to blow, therefore passing the card on through the circle.

• "Prank SMS" - The player who draws this card must hand their mobile phone over to the rest of the group, who get to send one SMS to anyone they can find in the contacts list or a number they supply. Professional contacts are often off-limits for this, however. Typically, ex-partners or potential partners are targeted.
• "Never Have I Ever" - The person who draws the card makes a factual statement beginning with the words "Never have I ever . . ." All players who the statement DOES NOT apply to must drink.

• "Alphabet Game" - Can be for Movie Titles, Song Names, Music Artists/Groups or Video Games etc.

Play goes around clockwise (or counter) starting from A-Z and each person has to name an artist, movie, etc. that starts with the assigned name. Each player has 3 seconds (or as agreed) to reply. If not they drink and play continues until the letter Z or a certain amount of drinks. Keep to one category else it's too easy.

• "Countries" - First player says any country they want, next player must use the last letter of the country as the starting letter of their country. Play goes until someone messes up.
• "Penis Game" - Player picks a category and other players begin to name items which fit into that category, except one word is removed and the word "penis" is inserted. e.x.: Beatles song's instead of "She's Got a Ticket to Ride", it's "She's Got a Penis to Ride"
• "Back" - The previous person in the rotation takes one drink.
• "Jack-off" - Much like "Hand Jive," but play continues counterclockwise instead of through pointing from player to player. First person to make a mistake in repeating the sequence drinks.
• "Piss-card" - Only the person who has drawn the most recent jack may use the bathroom. All other players must hope to draw a jack or for the game to end (or beg the current jack owner to take them with him or her).
• "Ass on the Wall" - Everyone must put their naked ass on an object decided upon prior to the start of the game. The object is commonly the wall, but it can very well be the neighbours' front door, the railing of a boat, or your friends car. Whoever is last must drink and add some of his or her drink to the punishment jar.

[edit] Queen (Q)

• "Question Master" - The player who draws the Queen becomes the Question Master. No player may answer a question from the Question Master. If they fail in this task, drink. The next Queen replaces the Question Master.
• "Strip" - When a red (diamond or heart) Queen is drawn, all female players in the room have to remove an item of clothing and when a black (club or spade) Queen is drawn, all male players in the room must remove a piece of clothing. Often restrictions are set in place on what the clothing items can be, i.e. only shirts and pants count. This rule is especially fun when combined with rules such as "no bras allowed".

• "Hot Seat" - The person who pulled the King is now in the hot seat and all other players may ask them any question they want. They must answer truthfully, or they can pass and take a drink, but only one or two passes are allowed depending on the number of players.

• "In Your Face" - Lick the ace card and stick it to your fore head. Chug until the card falls off naturally.
