It was photographed by Wehrmacht soldiesr not SS. It is also known that Gestapo didn't want that these photographs would be taken, especially with german soldiers in the backgrund. For the 5 000 killed there is no documental evidence and it is diputable. Altough there is no denial of the fact, that pogroms were going on.--Lokyz 09:49, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Killing of Jews in Kaunas by Lithuanian nationalists - I object to the unmotivated use of the word Lithuanian nationalists in the title of this picture. Why not Lithuanian Nazi-collaborators?? Lithuanian nationalism can be attributed to Provisional Government of Lithuania; led by Juozas Ambrazevičius, which existed for a few weeks before it gave up all its authority to Reichskommissariat Ostland. On the other hand, the person allegedly involved in the pogroms - Algirdas Klimaitis and the rebels were not subordinate to the Lithuanian provisional government, and the pogroms were instigated by German army - SS and SD. See also [1] for the modern Lithuanian historians' analysis of these events (the title reads The rebels of June 1941 - national heroes or agents of Nazism?, the study is done by the Research centre of Lithuanian peoples' genocide and resistance movement). In any case this seems a totally inappropriate illustration for the article on Nationalism (see Nationalism) - especially the Lithuanian one. To shift the responsibility for anti-Semitic atrocities to Lithuanian nationalism is just Nazi propaganda. 15.207.255.7 18:25, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
