KS2XBS
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
KS2XBS was an experimental television station in Chicago, Illinois, owned and operated by Zenith. It was the world's first pay-television station, branded as "PhoneVision". Zenith originally occupied the VHF Channel 2 frequencies since 1939, using this as an experimental station while they tried to perfect "PhoneVision". In 1950, it formally launched, but was forced off the air in July 1953 when WBBM-TV (then on Channel 4) moved to the Channel 2 frequency. The station's transmitter was later donated to Chicago's first educational station, PBS member station WTTW (Channel 11).
