La Seyne-sur-Mer

La Seyne-sur-Mer, or La Seyne is a town and commune of the Var département, in France. It is an industrial suburb of Toulon, SW of that port, and connected with it by rail and steamer. Population (1999): 60,968.
Pop. (1901) 21,002.
It owed its importance to the shipbuilding trade, the Société des Forges et Chantiers de la Mediterranée having here one of the finest shipbuilding yards in Europe (it is a branch of the greater establishment at Marseille), which gave employment to about 3,000 workers.
