Laramie Boomerang
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Laramie Boomerang is Laramie, Wyoming's only daily newspaper. It was founded in 1881 by Edgar Wilson Nye, who named the paper after his mule, Boomerang. Nye also contributed several humorous writings to the Boomerang (under the pseudonym Bill Nye) and served as the paper's editor until 1884.
In 2003, the newspaper removed the word “daily” from its masthead to account for the fact that it is published only six days per week. The newspaper’s reputation is lukewarm in the region’s journalistic community, but it manages to serve the meat and potato news small communities like Laramie and surrounding Albany County need.
Although it serves as a training ground for many recent graduates from the University of Wyoming, relations with that university’s journalism department are nonexistent. The Boomerang suffers from a very high turnout rate among its editorial staff.
