Laus Deo

Laus Deo, or Coro Laus Deo et matri dei (f. May 2000 -) is a choir from Central America inspired by the memory of Saint Philip of Italy. With currently 45 singers, Laus Deo has participated in some of Costa Rica's most important events, including concerts at the National Auditorium in San José, collaborations with the University of Texas at Austin, University of Costa Rica and national televised appearances. The name "Laus Deo", taken from Latin, means "Praise be to God".

Laus Deo Choir has the mission of promoting a space for cultural, social and spiritual growth for each of its members. By means of the choral singing, it pretends to embody a close spiritual relationship and invite the audience to a reflexive perspective. Moreover, Laus Deo provides an opportunity for choir followers to listen to some of the world’s finest choral masterpieces.It is important to highlight that only few people in Laus Deo are musicians.Laus Deois almost entirely a vocational choir, a fact worthy of praise. Having diverse professions does not represent an obstacle for its members since they are tought the principles of choral singing by their director, thereby allowing them to perform choral music at the highest levels of perfection

Laus Deo combines a repertoire from the elegance of classical music to the liveliness of Latin American music including popular and religious songs from different musical periods as well as original compositions.
