League for a Workers Republic
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The League for a Workers Republic was a small Trotskyist organisation in Ireland. It was founded in 1968 as a split from the Irish Workers Group unhappy at the low level of activity in that organisation. It oriented to the International Committee of the Fourth International but when that group split, it sided with the Organising Committee for the Reconstruction of the Fourth International, a minority siding with Gerry Healy forming the League for a Workers Vanguard.
The group was active in the Young Socialists and joined the Socialist Labour Alliance on its formation in 1971. In 1972, a group split to form the Movement for a Socialist Republic.
In the late 1970s, it reassessed its position, orientating instead to the Labour Party, while some members participated in the Socialist Labour Party. The group appears to have become inactive by around 1990.
