Lear, Tolstoy and the Fool
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lear, Tolstoy and the Fool is an essay by George Orwell which has as its subject a pamphlet written by Leo Tolstoy. Tolstoy's criticism of Shakespeare's work in general and King Lear in particular is rebutted by Orwell. Orwell then in the course of the essay criticizes Tolstoy himself and gives numerous reasons for the dislike of "King Lear."
