[edit] Name of LoGH in German

Concluding from different fan sites, I believe the most resonable German title should be Heldensagen vom Kosmosinsel, where:

  • Helden = hero
  • Sagen = legend (saga)
  • vom = of the
  • Kosmos = universe (cosmos)
  • Insel = island

Alternative readings of flourish title shown on the TV series, Herdensagen, Derdensagen, von, Kosmosinset, do not make much sense when I try to look them up in online German-English Dictionaries. Can someone who really know German help to clarify this?

I am changing the Alternative titles section to clean up the redundancies in German and Japanese. If you want to change it to something else, please explain why you think you have more accurate information. I am interested to know. Thank you. ^_^

First of all,I definitly agree with that rendering. The original VHS and Laserdisc releases spelled it Herdensagen rather than Heldensagen but I believe this is an obvious Japanese L/R issue. The more rescent DVD release says Heldensagen. Another I noticed is the article refers to the series as a TV show. It was not. The main series was an OVA (original video animation) released in 26 volumes (each normally containing 4 25 minute episodes, with volume 7 being only two,and volume 26 having a double length episode). The Gaiden series was released in basically the same way though offhand I don't know how many tapes/discs it was. I am pretty sure it was sold primarily as a mail order thing. My Conquest Is The Sea Of Stars and Overture To A New War I believe were both theatrical films, but I could be wrong, and Golden Wings was a TV movie. The first 'season' being volumes 1-7 were aired on Japanese TV after their initial VHS/LD release, but no other episodes were (probably because the violence content seems to rise from season 2 on). The entire main OVA series was however aired on TV in Taiwan I think (though it may have been Hong Kong), and the DVD release contains a Chinese dub (not sure offhand if it is Cantonese or Mandarin,I can go check). If I get a chance i'll update the article, but if someone else beats me to it more power to them =)

[edit] so, this is the next page to have a makeover hmmm?

Well, im stumped on this one, heard of it, but never watched it.

Dunno how I can help, well i guess i'll just proof read it or something.

I'll leave the more details stuff to the dedicated fans. ;)

The problem with the article is that is bascially just lists. And what compunds it is that it has never been released in English speaking countries, so the ratio of material in Japanese to English is much higher then with most other shows. For starters it would be nice to see if we can translate anything from other languages versions into that article, then we need to add sections on plot, characters, themes and influences.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 23:38, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
I think what we need to do is split the article. Into many pieces. We need a characters article, a media article and probably a timeline article too. Getting the massive lists out of the article will make things a lot more manageable. I'll get started on one of these and hopefully somebody else will continue the trend. - Phorque (talk contribs) 14:08, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Once we have subarticles, Category:Legend of the Galactic Heroes will be only logical...--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 16:21, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Seiyū vs. Voice actor

For article section titles, I've replaced all use of "seiyū" with "voice actors" because the latter term is more widely known. I then when on and reworded the main voice actor section and used "voice actor" with a brief explanation of seiyū in the first instance and then use seiyū through the rest of the section.

I'm not sure how touchy some people are about the use of seiyū vs. voice actor, but I figured I should give an explanation for my changes. --TheFarix (Talk) 15:19, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

The generally accepted format for Japan-related articles is to use "voice actor" for non-Japanese voice actors, and "seiyū" for Japanese voice actors. This will likely cause someone to revert what you did. --日本穣 Nihonjoe 20:21, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
I didn't seen any such "accepted format" in the anime articles I've skimmed through when I was doing the genre categorizing. Both terms are used interchangeably. There is also nothing about which term to use in either WP:MOS-JA or WP:Anime. The closest I can come to is Wikipedia:Guide to writing better articles#Think of the reader which advices to avoid using jargon, but when used, should be accompanied by a basic definition. The latter isn't something that is normally done in a heading. --TheFarix (Talk) 22:16, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia is a general-purpose encyclopedia. As such, we should avoid jargon when it is not strictly necessary for precision. "Voice actor" is a perfectly well understood, accurate, and descriptive term, and is preferable to "seiyū". Nandesuka 22:19, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
Here is something else I found, Wikipedia:Guide to writing better articles#Use other languages sparingly. --TheFarix (Talk) 22:26, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox Conflict?

I was trying to add more info to the infobox when I noticed that some of the info in the infobox seemed to conflict with the info in the Anime section of the article. I was wondering if anyone knew which was correct? I really couldn't find much.

Check the information against the ANN Encyclopedia. However, if you can get the information from the official site, that would be better. --TheFarix (Talk) 01:58, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fan sites

As per WP:EL there is a need to decide on one major fansite and prune the others. --Squilibob 23:25, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Which specific part of WP:EL you're refering to?--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 23:34, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
Some of those links are incorrectly labeled as fansites when they are actually reviews from reputable online anime sites. --TheFarix (Talk) 01:45, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
P.S. The forum link can be talkin off without problems as it is Wikipolicy not to link to forum sites. -Farix

[edit] And that's a wrap

I think we did quite well cleaning up this article while it was the Anime COTW. The information that was just cluttered up the article was moved to separate pages and we were successful in tighten up the rest. Good job everyone. --TheFarix (Talk) 17:58, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
