Limerick School of Art and Design
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD) is an art college in Limerick City in Ireland. The school is run by Limerick Institute of Technology but is situated on Clare Street, not on LIT's main campus.
Most of the students of LSAD reside in nearby student accomodation compounds, Grove Island, Parkview or Lelia House.
The college boasts a superb, well ordered and well run library, but in other areas the standards of facilities vastly vary. For example, the sculpture department is facilitated in a large shed in the back of the George's Quay campus.
Notable tutors lecturing there include Breda Lynch, Charlie Harper, Jim Savage and Mary Nagle.
Head of school is Richard Ruth, head of Fine Art is Bob Baker and Head of the International Erasmus Programme within the college is Ursula Walsh.
[edit] Student Union
The student union president is David Fortune and the vice-president is Ivor. The student union also comprises the many societies run by students, including Schnitzel, a comedy club which hosts local stand-up events; the Book Club (disbanded); the Swimming Club (disbanded); The Texas Hold 'Em Poker Society (disbanded); the Drama Society; the music society (a covers band whose accurate and extremely faithful renditions of popular AOR hits of the 70's have earned much popularity within the student population); and Phobe, a sound art and and music society, notable as the only art-related society within the college. Curiously, events hosted by Phobe have been attended almost exclusively by local people not affiliated with the college.
