List of genjutsu in Naruto - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

List of genjutsu in Naruto

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a list of genjutsu in the anime and manga series Naruto. Each jutsu is listed by the literal translation of its Japanese name.

Contents

[edit] Manga jutsu

These jutsu appear in both the Naruto manga and its anime adaptation.

[edit] Bringer-of-Darkness Technique

Bringer-of-Darkness Technique
Bringer-of-Darkness Technique
  • Name: Kokuangyō no Jutsu, 黒暗行の術, literally "Bringer of Darkness Technique", English TV "Genjutsu: Infinite Darkness Jutsu"
  • Type: A-rank, Supplementary, Short to mid-range (0-10m)
  • Users: First Hokage, Second Hokage (anime only)

This jutsu makes the target think that they are surrounded by total darkness, allowing the user to attack unseen. In the anime, the Second Hokage was the one to initiate this technique. In the manga, it was the First Hokage.

[edit] Death Foreseeing Technique

  • Name: Shikumi no Jutsu, 死の観覧の術, literally "Death Foreseeing Technique" or "Death Viewing Technique" (Killing Intention)
  • Type: Unknown
  • Users: Orochimaru

This jutsu is much like the Temporary Paralysis Technique, but paralyzes the foe by showing them a vision of their own gruesome death. In addition to the paralysis, the enemy is overwhelmed with fear, and can suffer severe mental stress.

[edit] Demonic Flute: Dream Sound Chain

  • Name: Mateki: Mugen'onsa, 魔笛・夢幻音鎖, literally "Demonic Flute: Dream Sound Chain"
  • Type: B-rank, Supplementary, All ranges
  • Users: Tayuya

Using her flute, Tayuya can make her target feel as if they are tied with numerous wires, restricting their movement. Soon after, their flesh will begin to melt away from their bones, causing great pain and horror to the target. The jutsu must be maintained by the melody of the flute.

[edit] Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings Technique

  • Name: Magen: Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu, 魔幻・此処非の術, literally "Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings Technique"
  • Type: C-rank, Supplementary, All ranges
  • Users: Kotetsu Hagane, Oboro

This jutsu changes the appearance of a nearby object or area.

[edit] Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing Technique

  • Name: Magen: Narakumi no Jutsu, 魔幻・奈烙見の術, literally "Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing Technique"
  • Type: D-rank, Supplementary, Short range (0-5m)
  • Users: Kakashi Hatake

This jutsu causes the target to see a horrifying vision. First, an imaginary circle of leaves will spin around and envelop the target, falling away shortly after. After a short period, the illusion will begin. This is to make the illusion more convincing, since the user will likely have moved before the illusion sets in.

[edit] Demonic Illusion: Mirror Heaven and Earth Change

Itachi reverses Kurenai's Demonic Illusion: Tree Bind Death jutsu.

  • Name: Magen: Kyōten Chiten, 魔幻・鏡天地転, literally "Demonic Illusion: Mirror Heaven and Earth Change", English TV "Genjutsu Reflection"
  • Type: Kekkei genkai, No rank, Supplementary, Short range (0-5m)
  • Users: Itachi Uchiha

Using the Sharingan's jutsu-copying abilities, Itachi can reverse any genjutsu back on its original user.

[edit] Demonic Illusion: Tree Bind Death

With this jutsu, the user can make themselves disappear, allowing them to approach their target unnoticed. Once completed, a tree and roots will grow at the target's feet and restrict their movements. Once the opponent believes that they are captured, the user can then appear above their opponent from the tree's trunk and kill the target. In the Kurama clan filler arc of the anime, this jutsu seems to be quite versatile, with a wide range of variations on the standard nature theme. In addition to the disappearing and tree-growing effects of the jutsu, the user can produce flowers, seedpods, vines and multiple trees.

[edit] Mist Servant Technique

  • Name: Kasumi Jūsha no Jutsu, 霞従者の術, literally "Mist Servant Technique"
  • Type: D-rank, Supplementary
  • Users: Mubi, Oboro, Kagari

This jutsu creates clones that phase in and out of the ground as if they were made of a blackish, oil-like liquid. When attacked, the clones regenerate themselves. The clones can be controlled to make it seem as if they're throwing kunai. The user can then time their attacks with those of the clones.

[edit] Sly Mind Affect Technique

  • Name: Kori Shinchū no Jutsu, 狐狸心中の術, literally "Sly Mind Affect Technique"
  • Type: C-rank, Supplementary, Mid to long-range (5+m)
  • Users: Oboro, Kagari, Mubi

This jutsu causes the enemy to walk around in circles for hours by making it seem as if they're walking straight to their desired destination. The enemy eventually becomes exhausted after traveling the same path over and over.

[edit] Temple of Nirvana Technique

  • Name: Nehan Shōja no Jutsu, 涅槃精舎の術, literally "Temple of Nirvana Technique" English "Nirvana Temple Jutsu"
  • Type: A-rank, Supplementary, All ranges
  • Users: Kabuto Yakushi

This jutsu causes everyone within a specific area to fall into a deep sleep. From the target's point of view, it seems as if feathers are falling from the sky, which serves as a distraction to allow the jutsu to take effect. The downside, however, is that it takes a fair amount of time to take effect, and any experienced ninja has more than enough time to dispel it.

[edit] Tsukuyomi

Tsukuyomi in action.

  • Name: Tsukuyomi, 月読, literally "Moon Reader"
  • Type: Kekkei genkai, No rank, Supplementary, Short range (0-5m)
  • Users: Itachi Uchiha

Named after the Shinto moon god, Tsukuyomi, this jutsu is one of the most powerful genjutsu in existence. It is unique to the Uchiha clan and only those with the Mangekyo Sharingan can perform it. When executed, the jutsu traps the target in an illusionary world that is completely controlled by the user. While it only takes a few seconds to complete in the real world, the user can make it seem as if days have passed for the target. Depending on the user's whim, they can either torture their target for days on end, or make them relive a traumatic event over and over. Once the jutsu is finished, the target will not be able to fight for some time, if they don't suffer complete mental collapse.

While the illusion is never the same twice, some elements always remain. The first and foremost similarity is the red moon, which hangs in the sky of each illusion. The moon, in turn, casts a red light throughout the illusion, giving the background a blood-red appearance while the figures within the illusion are solid black with white outlines.

Because the Sharingan is the main factor in executing this jutsu, eye contact is required. When he used it on Sasuke Uchiha, however, Itachi seemed to force Sasuke to open his eyes. Sasuke had both eyes closed prior to Itachi's activation of the technique, but opened them in shock as Itachi used the technique. Alternatively, Itachi may have simply caused Sasuke enough pain to open his eyes, or Sasuke did so by himself, despite how unwise such an action was.

Such a powerful technique is not without its disadvantages, though. Because of the complexity of the illusion and the quickness with which it is executed, an enormous amount of chakra is necessary to perform it.

[edit] Anime jutsu

These jutsu only appear in the anime adaptation of the Naruto manga.

[edit] Demonic Illusion: Descending Hell Technique

  • Name: Magen: Jigoku Kōka no Jutsu, 魔幻・地獄降下の術, literally "Demonic Illusion: Descending Hell Technique"
  • Type: Unknown
  • Users: Yoroi Akado

This jutsu creates the illusion of a tremendous ball of fire in the sky, which then crashes onto a designated area. Anyone in the area will instinctively flee.

[edit] Demonic Illusion: Double False Surroundings Technique

  • Name: Magen: Nijū Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu, 魔幻・二此処非の術, literally "Demonic Illusion: Double False Surroundings Technique"
  • Type: Unknown
  • Users: Oboro

This jutsu places another illusion on top of a previous illusion created by the user. If and when the target dispels the first illusion, they will not realize that a second is in place.

[edit] Illusion Bell Needles

  • Name: Suzu Senbon no Genkaku, スズ千本の幻覚, literally "Illusion Bell Needles" English TV Genjutsu: Bell Illusion Jutsu
  • Type: Unknown
  • Users: Kin Tsuchi

Kin Tsuchi can use this technique with her specially designed bells. By attaching the bells to senbon (throwing needles) and throwing them at her target, she can get them to dodge and subsequently ignore the bells. Additionally, the target may believe the bells are actually designed to lull them into a false sense of security. In actuality, she has strings attached to the bells, which allows her to ring them. The bells ring at a certain frequency, which directly affects the brain. This causes her target to see multiple copies of herself, making it impossible to tell the real one from the illusions. Additionally, the target loses their motor skills with continued exposure to the ringing.

[edit] Time Reversal Technique

  • Name: Jigyaku no Jutsu, 時逆の術 literally "Time Reversal Technique"
  • Type: Unknown
  • Users: ANBU

This technique puts the target in a state of reverse hypnosis, allowing them to remember details that they otherwise would not. The target will comply with interrogation, but seems to retain his or her personality while under hypnosis. For example, when the ANBU used this technique to bring back Naruto's memories about his conversations with Gennou, Naruto was more specific about the ramen he shared with the old man rather than their conversations, which the ANBU were asking about.

[edit] Other jutsu

These jutsu appear in the Naruto movies and video games.

[edit] Illusion: Mist

Kurenai creates an illusionary clone that charges towards the enemy, jumps, and then explodes in a cloud of cherry blossom petals.

[edit] Ninja Art: Profusing of Flowers

Ino casts an illusion that paralyzes the enemy, causing them to see a storm of cherry blossoms.

[edit] Tsukuyomi: Black Dream

Itachi traps the enemy in a Tsukuyomi illusion, causing them to see the ground beneath their feet break open, plummeting them into a huge chasm. The torment ends when a column of fire slams them into the pit.
