[edit] When should we list it?
Heya.
I wanted to discuss when we should or shouldn't add a fictional toxin or mutagen in this list. My idea is that we only list a fictional toxin when it's primary use or property is poisoning or mutating living organisms.

- I'm going to suggest that if the mutagenic side effect massively outstrips the medical (or other) benefit it make the list. From that principle I added Pax from Serenity (film). Spice from Dune (novel) is mutagenic, but far to useful to qualify for the list. Novangelis 00:28, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

I removed the T-Virus from the list. The T-Virus is an engeneered disease, not a toxin, it belongs in the "Engineered diseases" section of the List of fictional diseases.

I don't get this entry.
DDT is an exhisting pesticide, known under the names 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis(p-chlorophenyl)ethane and dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane and not (4,4'-(2,2,2-trichloroethane-1,1-diyl)bis(chlorobenzene). The listed DDT internal link goes to the non-fictional DDT-wiki, and the listed source, Paul Hermann Müller, is a non-fictional chemist who discovered the non-fictional DDT. Furthermore, DDT is said to help against barbituate-poisoning when ingested and is said to be non-toxic for humans and primates.
I'll remove the DDT entry, but I invite whomever added the entry to find/state the proper Fantasy/Sci-Fi referrence wherein DDT is used as you described.
Also, it might be possible that this entry about DDT fits better in the list of fictional applications of real materials.

[edit] The Spice Melange
Should there be a listing under mutagens for the Spice from Dune? The Spacing Guild Navigators are completely altered by long-term use of the Spice, to the point they no longer resemble humans. --YoungFreud 20:20, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- Good question. It is already listed in the List of fictional medicines and drugs and it's primary use is for astrogation, not for mutation (which is considered a side-effect in the Dune-universe). I don't know at the moment.

- The reason I ask is because there are items on both lists that have a legitmate medicinal value, like Ephemerol in Scanners, in which an unintended mutagenic side effect.--YoungFreud 04:23, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
