how is Islam pacifist, Mohammed himself waged many wars (Anonymous)
The short disclaimer that practice hasn't always matched teaching is necessary to forestall arguments of the sort "X shouldn't be listed as pacifist because X engaged in war Y." A good future improvement of the page would be a super-brief summary of why a group is considered pacifist and the reasons for disagreement, if any. Buddhism isn't monolithic; someone more familiar with its divisions should expand that bit. gabby 02:50, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
I think it would be a mistake to list Islam as such hear. Islam, like Judaism and many Christian Churches, has a notion of 'just war.' Pacifism tends to denote opposition to war as such, regardless of any justification offered for it. I don't think it's appropriate to list Hinduism here without qualification. While the notion of Ahimsa is very strong and there are certainly many Hindus dedicated to non-violent change (Ghandi being perhaps the most prominent) warriors do make up an accepted section of Hindu society (being the second highest caste) and pacifism seems to be rejected in the Bhagavad Gita (in which Arjuna is upbraided for refusing to fight). The duty to fulfill one's assigned role in the social order seems to trump the concern for non-violence. It would be better to list specific Hindu groups which espouse pacifism as opposed to listing the whole religion. Luqman
I removed Wicca from the list. Wiccans, individually, may be pacifist. Plenty aren't though. There is no doctrinal rule advocating specifically for peace. Moralxdilemma 07:58, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Christadelphians are not pacifists and you can even see this from Christadelphians. I therefore removed them from this list. AlexB
