The Sims: Livin' Large, also called The Sims: Livin' It Up in the United Kingdom, is the first expansion pack released for the strategy/simulation computer game, The Sims. Livin' Large adds extra characters, new items and new jobs to the main game, although it does not add any new major gameplay features as later expansions did.

[edit] New items
- Home Chemistry Lab — The Home Chemistry lab allows the player to experiment on their Sims with 8 different potions. Sims can increase their logic skill by making potions. They can also choose to drink the potions they have made, causing them to experience various effects such as becoming invisible, turning into a monster, and various other possible results. If the player creates too many potions, they may be fined by the police for creating a bad smell.
- Magic Lantern — Rubbing a magic lantern causes a genie to come out. The player then has a choice of one of two options. After the player chooses an option, either a positive or negative result can occur. For example, choosing a "money" option may result in gaining a large amount of Simoleons, or it could result in receiving bills that must be paid immediately. Magic lanterns can only be used once per day.
- Vibromatic heart bed — This romantic bed gives your Sims great comfort to sleep in and also gives two of your Sims the chance to relax.
- Electric guitar — The electric guitar boosts creativity, and is used as a group object. One Sim plays the guitar, while other Sims listen. The Sims listening will either cheer or boo the performance depending on the creativity level of the Sim playing the guitar.
- Crystal ball — The crystal ball is used to alter a Sim's personality. A riddle will be given when a Sim gazes into the ball, with different riddles reflecting different personality traits. The reflected trait may increase, decrease, or remain the same, depending on whether certain requirements are met at the end of the day.
- Servo — Though expensive, this robot is a "one-size-fits-all" object. Players purchase the docking pod for §15,000. If anything must be done, the Sims can activate Servo, who then goes into a routine of cooking, gardening, repairing, and cleaning (therefore eliminating the need for a maid or gardener). He was also the basis for the robots of The Sims 2: Open For Business
[edit] New Characters
Tragic Clown is a miserable clown who visits the homes of depressed Sims who have a "Tragic Clown" painting hanging in their household. He makes tasks even more difficult for already miserable Sims by waking them up while they try to sleep, and distract them with poorly executed tricks etc.
The clown can be eradicated by boosting the moods and overall morale of any Sims residing in the household. And selling any "Tragic Clown" paintings in the household will prevent his return. A faster method of ridding a household of the clown is a service called the "Clown Catchers", but it comes at a price. Locking the Tragic Clown in a room with no doors will not work; like Servo the Robot, he can teleport out if locked away with no escape. Causing the picture to catch on fire will also catch the clown on fire, another method of eliminating him.
Grim Reaper is another character introduced in the expansion. He collects the souls of dead Sims, however if any surrounding Sims are prompt enough, they may be able to plea with the Grim Reaper to spare the life of a dying Sim. From thereon, the Grim Reaper can either accept or decline the offer, the latter resulting in the death of the Sim. If Grim Reaper accepts the plea, he and the pleading Sim will play Rock, Paper, Scissors. A win for the Grim Reaper will result in the dying Sim being resurrected into a zombie. A win for the pleading Sim will result in a complete, unhinged resurrection of the dying Sim.

[edit] New Features
- If the player leaves a plate of cookies out in a room with a Christmas tree and a fireplace, Santa Claus will visit if all the sims are asleep by midnight. Santa leaves present boxes which act like the presents under the tree, but will also leave real items, like a big screen TV or Stereo.
