London Array

The London Array[1] is an offshore wind farm planned for the outer Thames Estuary in the United Kingdom. With its 1 gigawatt capacity, it is expected to become the world's largest offshore wind farm.
The site is seven miles off the North Foreland on the Kent coast in the area of Long Sand and Kentish Knock [2]. It will cover 90 square miles between Margate in Kent and Clacton in Essex.
The completed wind farm will consist of 271 wind turbines, and the energy output will amount to 3,100 GWh per year [3], or an average power of about 350 MW, which the proposers say is enough to power a quarter of the homes in Greater London. The wind farm will be built by London Array Limited, a consortium of Shell WindEnergy Ltd, E.ON UK Renewables and CORE Ltd [4], at a cost of £1.5bn.
Assembly of the turbines is to take place at Port Ramsgate.
