Loud (TV series)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Loud is a half-hour Canadian television program that usually airs Saturdays at 11:30 PM and Sundays at 4:30 AM on MuchMusic. The program airs heavy metal and hardcore music videos. There is a spinoff digital cable television channel called MuchLOUD that is owned and operated by CHUM Limited.
The show usually airs metal videos from recent years, though on occasion, they'll air a classic video from the 1980s or 90s, or a video from a rising Canadian band. When the show is airing concurrently with a major tour (i.e. Ozzfest, Gigantour), videos from the main bands of said tour may be aired.
Currently, Loud features no permanent host (its last host, George Stroumboulopoulos, left MuchMusic in 2004), and since May 2003, its length has decreased from one hour to a half hour. With the lack of a host, interviews with bands have also been removed from Loud for the most part.
These changes have generally been taken negatively by Canadian fans, especially considering the lack of metal videos on rotation during earlier programs, and the fact that Loud is frequently preempted in its 11:30 timeslot, often for a program that had already aired earlier that day, or a marathon of a more demographic-friendly show.
Loud could be considered the Canadian equivalent of MTV2's Headbangers Ball, which MuchMusic and its affiliate networks don't have on their schedules.
