Lyndis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lyndis (リンディス Rindisu) (usually called Lyn) is a fictional character in the video game Fire Emblem for the Game Boy Advance, the first Fire Emblem game to be released in the US. Lyndis was the first female character of the Lord class in the series, but not the first female character to be a main character of a game.
Her style of fighting is centered on speed and accuracy.

[edit] In battle
In battle, Lyn's abilities generally focus around speed and accuracy. Though her strength is not as high as the other two lords, she is still capable of dealing high amounts of damage due to double attacks and critical hits. Her defenses are somewhat weak, but her speed (allowing her to dodge oncoming attacks) makes up for this shortcoming.
Her character class resembles a myrmidon, both in stats and battle sprites.
When upgraded, Lyn's class is a Blade Lord. After the upgrade, Lyndis can wield swords and bows, a combination not present in any other class except for Nomad Trooper. This also makes Lyn the only lord to date, to wield a bow.
[edit] Biography
[edit] Prior to the game
Lyndis was born in the Sacaean Plains to Madelyn of Caelin, only daughter of the Lycian lord Hausen, and Hassar, prince and chieftain of the nomadic Lorca tribe of Sacae. They fell deeply in love, yet due to their social positions, Hausen was enraged, especially since he planned to engage her to the young marquess of Araphen. When Madelyn rejected the Araphen marquess and escaped with Hassar to elope, Hausen sent his most trusted vassal, a knight named Lord Wallace, to retrieve her by force. Lord Wallace, however, was not only Hausen's right hand, but the best friend of Hassar; seeing how deeply they loved each other, he decided to let them go and be imprisoned for months, rather than tear them apart.
Hausen disowned Madelyn and remained silent for years. He had resigned himself to the thought that Madelyn was dead in his eyes. Yet when he received a letter from her in which she told him that she was living happily in Sacae with her husband, her adoptive tribe and their daughter Lyndis, he was overjoyed. Hoping to be forgiven by Madelyn and Hassar, marquess Hausen sent two of the now-retired Wallace's pupils, the cavaliers Kent and Sain, to retrieve Madelyn and Lyndis, not knowing that tragedy had struck the Lorca...
A few days after Madelyn had sent the letter, the Lorca tribe were looted and murdered by bandits. The bandits poisoned their drinking water to weaken them and, lacking an antidote, the Lorca were dying slowly and painfully. The poison, combined with the assault of the bandits were too much for the Lorca. After Madelyn perished, Hassar used the last of his strength to allow the still-living Lyn to escape on his horse, where she was taken in by another tribe. She returned to her birthplace to find she was the only one of her tribe alive.
[edit] Lyn's Route
Trying to cope with her loss, Lyn lived alone in her house for six months, until she found a tactician (the player) unconscious on the plains. After providing hospitality for the player and fending off invading bandits with his/her guidance, she realizes that nothing will change if she does not leave the ruins of the Lorca behind. After that, she and the player set off on a journey to become stronger, Lyn hoping to avenge her tribe. Lyn's life gets altered forever after meeting Kent and Sain, two cavaliers from Lycia sent to find the daughter of Marquess Caelin, the Lady Madelyn's family. Lyndis's mother is Lady Madelyn, and it is revealed that she is the grand-daughter of Lord Hausen, the marquess of Caelin. Lyn, escorted by Kent and Sain, head for Caelin to finally meet her maternal grand-father.
Before heading out to Caelin, Lyn, Kent, and Sain stop by at a local shrine to pray for a safe journey. It is not long after their arrival that they saved an old priest in the shrine. In gratitude, he allows Lyn to touch the sacred blade's, the Mani Katti's, pattern and pray for a safe journey. Suddenly, the Mani Katti starts glowing, to which the priest says the blade's spirit is calling out to her, its rightful wielder. She draws the sword from its sheath, something the mercenary who tried to steal it couldn't do, and the priest says it is now her sword. With the Mani Katti now in her hand, Lyn heads out to Caelin.
Later in the storyline, she finds out that her grandfather is dying. At first it seems that he is dying a natural death, but then she finds out he is being poisoned by Lyn's grand-uncle Lundgren, the Marquess Hausen's younger brother. He is set on replacing Lyn's grand-father as Marquess Caelin, and will even kill his own brother to do so. Lundgren hears that Madelyn's daughter is alive and attempting to rescue her grand-father, so he starts a rumour that there is an impostor calling herself Lyndis, claiming to be the heir to the throne. Lundgren forces the citizens of Caelin to report the whereabouts of Lyndis wherever she may be seen, and orders Caelin's soldiers to hunt down and kill the "impostor". Lord Hausen, aware of Lyndis's existence, wishes for her safety. Lundgren however, tells him that she has been killed by bandits, and causes Hausen's condition to become worse due to anguish and grief.
The player and his/her legion fight a battle against Lundgren, and when he is killed, Lyn rushes to Hausen's side. Lyn finally meets her grand-father, who immediately believes that she is truly his grand-daughter and heir to the throne due to Madelyn and Lyndis's resemblance. Although he was heartbroken at first given his current condition, Lyndis gives the dying Hausen the will to live again, and those who saw him said it was as if he was never poisoned.
[edit] Eliwood/Hector's Route
After the end of the long journey to rescue Lord Hausen, the player and most of the allies leave Caelin and return to completing their original goals, but Sain, Kent, Wil and Florina stay in Caelin to serve the Marquess and his grand-daughter, the Lady Lyndis. Marquess Hausen would eventually die some time after Rekka no Ken and before Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi. None of the characters see the player for a year until the player joins Eliwood and Hector to prevent the invasion of Caelin by the Black Fang.
Lyn then accompanies the two other lords as they search for Eliwood's father and eventually take on the Black Fang. She also obtains the Sol Katti sword near the end of the game, which, though not a legendary weapon, is a stronger sister blade of Mani Katti.
[edit] After Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken
Lyndis's whereabouts after the game remain a mystery. Since she and Lord Hausen were created for the prequel, they are not mentioned in the earlier Fuuin no Tsurugi (which occurs after Rekka no Ken chronologically). However, her support conversation trees do present certain possibilities.
Should Lyn reach a support level of A with Hector, Eliwood, or Rath the game will end with her becoming the eventual mother of Lilina, Roy, or Sue by their respective fathers. However, it is suggested that the mothers of these three characters in Fuuin no Tsurugi have passed away. On the other hand, if the A support is with her vassal Kent or her best friend Florina, Lyn will take care of Caelin until Lord Hausen's death, and then entrust it to the care of Hector's Ostia before returning to Sacae with either Kent or Florina.
