this page is a great example of new hampshire trying to take a little more than they give. THere is no such thing as a maine/newhampshire dialect! It is a MAINE dialect that people from New Hampshire immatate. Not cool! AS a now annoyed MAiner i say get your oun identity new hampshire and leave ours alone!
This page needs to be deleted because there is no such English or dialect for the states of ME & NH. If anything, there are some pronunciations and a few lexical items, all particular to New England. -- CJ Withers 03:05, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
I disagree, there is a distinct English dialect for the states of New Hampshire and Maine. While these speech patterns are now somewhat rare, they still do exist and are more common among the "old-time" Maine and New Hampshire Yankees. One of my favorite things to do is go and sit in at the New Hampshire town meetings and listen to these "old-timers" complain. While their dialect is similair to the general New England or Boston speech, it is still recognizably different. I do, however, see your point in having this article deleted... but this should be at least merged into a section of a larger article covering broader the New England English. -- Prezboy1 22:49, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Mr. CJ Withers, as a Maine resident (who went to school in Pittsburgh and knows very well of Pittsburghuese), the Maine and Northern New Hampshire accent is alive and well. There is very little documentation about it to be found on the Interweb dere, but if you search for "Downeast accent" and happen upon anything about Tim Sample, he is the ultimate (albeit highly exaggerated) example of the aforementioned dialect. I even wrote a tongue-in-cheek manual for a technical writing class on the nature of this accent. Don't delete, as it's a part of Maine culture up here in the Northeast, dere. It may be difficult to separate the Eastern New England Dialect very completely from the Maine-NH Dialect. Northeastern Mass and RI have similar sounds and the lexical differences are few. However, the difference between Rhode Island and Maine is noticeable. I will be putting in an edit to this page. Assistant Village Idiot24.128.236.135 01:03, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
