Major is a rank of the Canadian Forces. The rank insignia of a major is two wide bars with a narrow bar in between them. All officer bars are of gold thread in the dress uniforms, olive drab in combat uniform. Majors fill the positions of Company/Squadron/Battery Commanders, or Deputy Commanders of a Battalion/Regiment. The Naval equivalent rank for Major is Lieutenant-Commander.
