Makira

The island of Makira (formerly San Cristobal) is the largest island of Makira-Ulawa Province in the Solomon Islands. The island is located east of Guadalcanal and south of Malaita. The largest city is Kirakira.
The island is rumoured to be home to a secret United States airbase following numerous sightings of UFOs.[1] However, following subsequent thorough investigations done by a special New Zealand Army contingnet serving under the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) to Makira Island in early 2007 proved the rumours to be untrue.[citation needed]
