Mara Buneva (Bulgarian: Мара Бунева) was a Bulgarian revolutionary of IMRO. She was born in Tetovo, present day Republic of Macedonia in 1902 and committed suicide on January 14, 1928 in Skopje, present day Republic of Macedonia, after assassinating Serbian official Vladimir Prelić who was notorious for arresting and torturing local students for having a Bulgarian national conscience.[citation needed] Her actions were an important milestone in the resistance of the local population against the Serbian policy of forced assimilation.
