Mariya Moten

Mariyah Moten represented Pakistan at the "Miss Bikini of the Universe 2006" pagent held in Beihai, a city in south China`s Guangxi Zhuang region on August 28 2006. The Pakistani born American Won Best in Media title, for being the most photographed and interviewed contestant in the pagent. Mariyah Moten is a 22 year old, Houston-based Pakistani American. She is a student of hotel management at the University of Houston.

Though Pakistan is a dominant Muslim State. There were objections about the 22 year old Houston-based Mariyah entering the pagent as a representative of Pakistan. Authorities are investigating on this matter. Speaking with the News, Culture Ministry spokesman Chaudhry Hafeez said this amounted to official recognition of the girl's nationality in a contest "that is seen by many as shameful." "How can somebody use Pakistan's name in such a contest," Hafeez counter-questioned to The News International newspaper on Tuesday.

over the years Pakistan has been seen as a Perdominantly Muslim Conservative Country. Mariyah Moten is the first "bikini" model of Pakistan breaking all barriers. As she told in a chinese newspaper quote "It`s the first time that Pakistan is participating in the bikini pageant, as we`re an Islamic country." she also added "Now, there's less reproach in Pakistan on women's participation in such beauty contests."

Mariyah Moten was crowned as "Miss Press/Best in Media" during the beauty pagent of "Miss Bikini of the Universe" in Beihai, a famous summer resort in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, July , 2005. Mariya is a hotel management student at the University of Houston, Texas.
