From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mark W. Hemphill was the editor of Trains magazine from September 2000 until July 2004 and remains a regular contributor to the magazine. He is noted for his vast portfolio of railroad photographs.
When he became editor in 2000, he was the first Trains editor to have been a professional railroader; he had served as a dispatcher for the Kansas City Southern Railway in Shreveport, Louisiana, and managed a locomotive repair firm.
From 2005 to present, Hemphill is the Senior Consultant-Rail for the Iraq Reconstruction Management Office, an arm of the State Department. In this appointment he advises the Director General of the Iraqi Republic Railways to assist them in reconstruction from the damage of 25 years of war and economic sanctions, and advise them in setting up their 1905-km system as a viable economic enterprise.
