Matthew Johnson (born July 14, 1983) is a former American football tailback, playing in college for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Johnson (nephew of Ohio State runningback Pete Johnson) was a 5-foot-10, 195-pound speedster who attended Upper Arlington High School. Johnson transferred from a small Long Island school called Elwood John Glenn. Upon his transfer Johnson made an immediate impact on Upper Arlington accumulating close o a thousand yards in the first few games. At the end of his one year career in Upper Arlington he was the second all time single game rushing leader.
Verbally committed to Georgia Tech a late offer from Ohio State is where he headed going into the 2002 season.
At Ohio State Johnson was considered one of the strongest pound for pound runningbacks in school history. Johnson battled hamstring injuries until his senior year of 2005 preventing him to ever really tap into his talent.
