Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) or 7-Ton, is a six-wheel drive all-terrain vehicle being used by the United States Marine Corps and United States Navy.
It is designed to replace the old M900 series of tactical trucks, and was first fielded in 1998, after the contract was awarded to Oshkosh Truck Corporation. The MTVR comes in several variants, those being short bed, long bed, dump truck, and wrecker. The LHS variant (Load Handling System) is capable of self-loading standard containers and is currently being tested by General Support Maintenance Company, 4th Maintenance Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group. A fifth-wheel tractor (MK31) has also been developed, and is utilized to tow Marine Corps refueling assets.
The MTVR is commonly known as the '7-Ton'. It is a misconception that this is because it weighs seven tons. In fact, it is so called because its maximum payload capacity offroad is 7.1 tons. The MTVR can also carry 15 tons onroad and is the prime mover for the M777 howitzer.

- Longbed MTVR's are capable of hauling a 1 TEU sized Shipping Container.
- MK 23 through MK 29 MTVR models have stowable dropsides. This allows for flexibility in moving cargo and troops.
- All models feature a built-in turret stand and roof opening for operating vehicle-mounted weapons.
