Melattur is a panchayat town in Thanjavur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is famous as a place of origin of the Melattur style of Bharatanatyam founded by Mangudi Dorairaja Iyer.

Melattur has an average literacy rate of 66%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 74%, and female literacy is 59%. In Melattur, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. There is a place in kerala state too with the same name, Melattur. It is in malappuram district of kerala, 16 kms away from town of Perinthalmanna.
