Meldon Levine

Meldon Edises Levine is an attorney and former Democratic Congressman from California. He was born June 7, 1943 in Los Angeles California. Graduated from Beverly Hills High School, Calif., 1960; B.A., University of California, Berkeley, Calif., 1964; M.P.A., Princeton University, Princeton, N.J., 1966; J.D., Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass., 1969; admitted to the California bar, 1970; lawyer, private practice.
Elected to the California assembly, 1977-1982; delegate, California State Democratic convention, 1977-1983; delegate, Democratic National Convention, 1980 and 1984; elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-eighth and to the four succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1983-January 3, 1993); was not a candidate for renomination to the One Hundred Third Congress in 1992, but was an unsuccessful candidate for nomination to the United States Senate; is a resident of Santa Monica, Calif.
At Harvard, to an audience of parents and alummni, in a speech which was tinged with the concerns of the domestic unrest and foreign conflict in Vietnam, he remarked,
"The streets of our country are in turmoil. The universities are filled with students rebelling and rioting. Communists are seeking to destroy this country. Russia is threatening us with her might. And the republic is in danger. Yes! danger from within and without. We need law and order! Without law and order, we will not survive"
After waiting for the thunderous applause to subside, he revealed to the audience that the remarks were first made by Adolf Hitler in 1932.
