Metropolitan Miami
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Metropolitan Miami is a complex of skyscrapers in the Central Business District of downtown Miami, Florida. It is currently under construction. The complex consists of four buildings. Met 3, when completed, will be the tallest building in Miami, at a height of 828 ft (252 m). The building will also contain 76 floors, which will make it the tallest building in the United States south of New York City in terms of floor count. In total height, it will be the tallest residential building south of New York. The tower will consist of residential condominium units. Met 3 is expected to be complete in 2009. Met 2 will actually be two buildings, each 46 floors, built right next to each other. At heights of 688 ft (210 m) each, one will be a commercial office building, and one will be a JW Marriott Hotel. Met 2 is expected to open in late 2008 or early 2009. It is the only one of the three towers that has not begun construction yet, as of January 2007. Met 1 will be a 40-story, 440 ft (134 m) residential building that will supplement the much larger Met 3 tower. Met 1 will architecturally be very similar to Met 3. Met 1 is expected to open before the other two towers, sometime in 2007. Met Square will be a 4-story building in the center of the complex designed to be similar to New York's Times Square. Met Square will contain retail shops, restaurants, and a Whole Foods Market. The Metropolitan Miami project has gained attention due to NBA star Shaquille O'Neal's involvement in the project. He formed the O'Neal Group, a building-development company, recently. The Metropolitan Miami project is the group's first.
