Minter Ellison is an international law firm with a strong Asia Pacific focus. For the past three years, Asian Legal Business has ranked it one of the largest legal group in the Asia Pacific region and The American Lawyer's survey of the Global 100 currently ranks it 22nd in the world by number of lawyers.
With more than 260 partners and 1000 lawyers located in Australia, Hong Kong, The People's Republic of China, Indonesia, New Zealand, the UK and the USA, the firm supports both local industry and international companies as well as government clients.
The firm's origins date back to 1827 in Sydney, Australia. Its first offshore office was opened in London in 1974. That office remains active today. It subsequently opened offices in Hong Kong and The Peoples Republic of China in the 1980s and in the USA (San Francisco) in 2002.
The firm has longstanding formal associations with Minter Ellison Rudd Watts in New Zealand, one of that country's leading commercial law firms, and in Indonesia with Makarim & Taira S., a leading local commercial law firm. Minter Ellison people are on permanent secondment to the Jakarta office.
Structurally, the firm operates with a chief executive and a board of directors, who are responsible for the performance and direction of the firm. Seven broad legal divisions draw together the firm's specialist areas of expertise: Construction, Engineering & Infrastructure; Corporate; Dispute Resolution; Finance; Human Resources & Industrial Relations; Real Estate; and Revenue.
The firm's Sydney office is situated in the city on 88 Phillip street. It takes up levels 8 through to 19 making it the largest occupier of Aurora Place.
Minter Ellison has developed industry focus groups that bring together specialists from all of its key areas of practice and offices in its network. Those Industry Groups are: Financial Services; Energy and Resources; Media and Communications; Infrastructure; Government; and Health and Aged Care.
The firm has also established a number of associated businesses to offer clients technical legal expertise that is supported by non-legal solutions. These associated business are:

By combining tailored non-legal management solutions and technical legal expertise, this consulting arm provides a unique 'one stop' point of access to help address business, compliance and accountability imperatives.
- Native Title Solutions - which provides strategic and hands-on consultancy services to drive forward negotiations with Australian indigenous groups. Native title specialists assist developers, project proponents and Aboriginal groups negotiate agreements relating to native title and cultural heritage matters. Its aim is to assist parties access land while observing indigenous protocols and developing enduring relationships between the parties.
