Mobile Telecommunications Company (Arabic: ام.تي.سى.; also known as "MTC") is a telecommunications company based in Kuwait. The company was founded in 1983 in Kuwait and now spans 21 countries with over 20 million subscribers. MTC is known as MTC-Vodafone in Kuwait and Bahrain, Fastlink in Jordan, MTC Atheer in Iraq, MTC Touch in Lebanon and Celtel in Several African countries. MTC's Market Capitilization exceeds US $30 billion on the Kuwait Stock Exchange as of August 1, 2005. MTC has been recognized as a telecommunication company that has invested heavily on the marketing of its products. A high profile TV commercial featuring Kenyan actors Edwin Nyutho and BMJ Mureithi advertising a Celtel product is an example of this. The company is certainly a heavyweight in the telecommunication industry and has been growing steadily since its inception.

[edit] MTC Atheer (Iraq)
MTC Atheer (or Atheer Telecom [1]) is a mobile telephone network operator serving Iraq mobile telephone users starting from the south of Iraq and moving to cover the whole country. The new service started in 2004, which included a number of benefits to customers in Iraq. Mobile Telecommunications Company, which became Atheer’s Kuwaiti partner, was founded in 1983 and is proud to be a leading mobile operator in Kuwait. The company pioneered mobile and paging services, starting with the ETACS system and the dual-band GSM 900/1800 MHz. It has been a pioneer of leading edge mobile data services in Kuwait. In September 2002, MTC entered into a partnership agreement with Vodafone, the world's leading Mobile Communications Company. The agreement was the first of its kind in the Middle East and has been followed closely with an agreement to work as a partnership on the second GSM license in Bahrain.

Fastlink ("Jordan Mobile Telephone Services Company Ltd."), founded in 1995, was the first operator to introduce mobile phone services into Jordan. In a few years, the company earned its reputation as the most progressive telecom operator on the region in terms of competitiveness and readiness to adopt new technologies and deploy cutting-edge services. In January 2003, a majority equity interest in Fastlink was acquired by Mobile Telecommunications Company, with ambitious regional expansion strategy, in what was widely considered the largest single acquisition in the Middle East, and the largest private sector investment in Jordan. Fastlink since became an embodiment of strong investor confidence in the Jordanian economy.
[edit] MTC Touch (Lebanon)
MTC Touch, formerly known as LibanCell, is one of the two operating G.S.M. networks in Lebanon, apart from Alfa. In 2004, the Mobile Telecommunications Company was awarded the contract effective June 1 with the Lebanese government to run and develop further a national G.S.M. network covering all Lebanese territories, as one of the two mobile operators serving the Lebanese market, known as the "MTC Touch".
[edit] MTC-Vodafone (Bahrain and Kuwait)
MTC-Vodafone, in partnership with the British telecommunication company, Vodafone, is the leading mobile operator in Kuwait with 1.5 million customers and 70 per cent market share. In 2003, in Bahrain, MTC-Vodafone was launched with the first 3G/EDGE nation wide network in the world.
