Monetary Authority of Macao

The Monetary Authority of Macao (澳門金融管理局; AMCM as the abbreviation retained from the past; Autoridade Monetária de Macau, in Portuguese) is a regulatory institution established on December 20, 1999, upon the transfer of the sovereignty of Macao from Portugal to the People's Republic of China as the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR).
It was formerly known as the "Monetary and Foreign Exchange Authority of Macau" (Autoridade Monetaria e Cambial de Macau, AMCM, in Portuguese), which had been created on July 1, 1989.
