[edit] Summary
Arms of the Kingdom of Naples 1806
Drawn by Theo van der Zalm
30th of March 1806 Napoleons brother Joseph was acclaimed as king of Naples. Josephs adopted arms combining the Napoleonic roman eagle with ancient symbols of southern Italy, like the classic horns of abundance for Terra di Lavoro, a leviathan for Otranto and a head with three legs for Sicily. Around the shield was the French Order of the ‘Grand Aigle’ and above it Napoleons star. It is hold by two crowned mermaids holding rudder and anchor. Typically for the Napoleonic heraldry are the crossed sceptres. aventino 11:36, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
