[edit] Government
New Lisbon is a Mayor-Council city with a City Administrator with varying powers. The position of City Administrator was created in 1999 following the arrest of the Clerk-Treasurer John Statsny at that time. The Administrator took over the powers of Clerk-Treasurer and also oversaw all city operations and budgets. The first two Administrators were in place only for short periods of time due to incompatibility with the City. Carol Held, a former City Clerk of Reedsburg, WI, served as interim Clerk-Treasurer in 2001 and 2002. In 2002 the City hired Nicholas Onyszczak as City Administrator. He served for two years and during that time reformed the City's budgeting process, greatly improved the financial security of the City, oversaw the expansion of the City's water, sewer and electric utilities. In addition, he along with several community members successfully lobbied the State of Wisconsin to open the New Lisbon Correctional Institution. In 2004, Nicholas Onyszczak resigned having accomplished his goals as City Administrator. In 2005, Ed Kaelin was hired as City Administrator and is still currently serving in that role. The City's rapid growth has slowed, but it remains a vital community thanks to its professional administrators.
