New Mangalore Port

New Mangalore Port is the only major port of Karnataka and is currently the ninth largest port in India. It was formally ingurated on May 4, 1974 by the then prime minister Indira Gandhi. The construction began in 1962. The port is situated at Panambur, Mangalore on the west cost of India. It is 170 nautical miles south of Mormugao Port & 191 nautical miles north of Kochi Port
The major commodities exported through the port are Iron Ore concentrates & pellets, Iron Ore fines, granite stones, containerized cargo. The major imports of the port are crude and POL products, LPG, wood pulp, timber logs, finished fertilizers, liquid ammonia, phosphoric acid, other liquid chemicals, containerized cargo, etc.
