On Election Day, November 7, 2006, voters filled a four-year term for Mayor and two three-year seats on the Borough Council. As of Election Day, Democrats held a 4-2 edge on the council, in a community in which registered Democrats outnumber Republicans by an almost 4-3 margin. Grotsky (2,300) and Republican Thomas A. Smith (2,284). [edit] November 29, 2006 Bomb Threat

At approximately 4:56 am a phone call was made to the New Milford Police Department by a man threatening to detonate a bomb and kill himself. The man thought he was wanted by the police which has turned out to be one of the reasons for his threat. At the time, his mother and grandmother were both in the home. After over two hours of negotiating with him, the police department persuaded him to surrender. After searching the house it turned out there were no weapons or bombs.[13]
