Nicholas Alberto "Nicky" Carle (born November 23, 1981 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia) is an Australian football (soccer) player of Chilean origin. He currently plays as an attacking midfielder for the Australian A-League club Newcastle United Jets.
Futsal has been a huge part of Carles footballing development and can be seen in the style of game he plays, as a junior Carle won 5 national futsal titles.
During his days as a teenage schoolboy, he played football for his high school, Patrician Brothers College, Fairfield. Even at this stage, Carle displayed much promise and potential as a footballer. His most notable football achievement at school level was leading his school to win the much coveted Bill Turner Cup competition - a feat which, to date, has not been matched.
[edit] Professional Career
Began his career as a 15 year old at Sydney Olympic in the National Soccer League.
He was handed The Captains Armband for Newcastle's 3-0 win over Queensland Roar. In that match he was also given a fourth yellow to be suspended for their 2-3 loss to Adelaide United.
Nicky Carle has starred for the Newcastle Jets in the first 2 seasons. He is a class midfielder using fancy footwork which has made him a fan favourite.
The goal he scored against Adelaide United in Round 10 of the 2006-07 A-League Season was named 'Goal of the Season'.On Monday February 12 2007 Carle was named the A-League Player of the Year on popular Australian football site, pintculture.com. Carle won the sites Arok Award from Melbourne Victory player Kevin Muscat by one vote. [1]
Later on during the month, Carle won the prestigious Johnny Warren Medal for the players' player of the year for his performance throughout the 2006/07 season, beating Melbourne Victory's Daniel Allsopp, Archie Thompson and the aforementioned Muscat.[2] Carle also won the goal of the year award.
[edit] International Career
Represented Australia at the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship.
Carle earned his senior Australian team call up against Venezuela in 2004. He came on as a substitute on the 84th minute replacing David Zdrilic.
In March 2007 Nick Carle was called up to the Australian national football team for the second time to face the Chinese national team in China. The call up brings to an end a frustrating 3 years for the Carle, who has been constantly snubbed by national team managers, beginning with the 2004 Olympic side.
