Nick Foskett

Nick Foskett is a Professor of Education at the University of Southampton and Dean of the Faculty of Law, Arts and Social Sciences.

Foskett began his career as a geography teacher in secondary schools and further education before moving into higher education, firstly as a university marketing manager and then in academic posts teaching and undertaking research in education. He has held senior posts in schools and in HE, has worked as a consultant to government and to a wide range of educational institutions both in the UK and internationally, and has served as a governor and Chair of Governors of a number of schools and post-16 colleges.
His particular areas of interest and expertise lie in the field of educational policy and management, with a particular focus on education 14-19 and higher education. Foskett also retains a strong interest in environmental issues and environmental education from his background in geography teaching, and continues to publish on aspects of the role of fieldwork and outdoor education in schools and colleges. His latest books are on educational management (Sage) and young people’s decision-making in education (Routledge Falmer).
