November 9th Society

The November 9th Society is a British Neo-Nazi group (sometimes called the British Nazi Party), formed in 1977 by Terry Flynn.

Under Flynn's leadership N9S (as it is now commonly known) was a very peripheral group that went through long periods of inactivity. In recent years however the group, now under the leadership of Kevin Quinn the N9S has raised its profile and taken a more active role in British politics.

The use of the term "British Nazi Party" to describe the group comes from the fact that it had advertised itself as Britain's only Nazi party in leaflets and stickers.

Until recently N9S has functioned as a pressure group although since August 2004 they have began to mobilise as a political party. The society campaigns against immigration, abortion, communism and homosexuality, whilst supporting a hierarchical system of leadership, repatriation and British ownership of industry, with all banking controlled by a central government bank. In its manifesto, one of the pledges of the party is to nationalise all media outlets.

The party states that its name comes from the date in 1923 when 16 Nazis lost their lives at Feldherrnhalle as part of the Beer Hall Putsch. Critics and opponents have argued, however, that the name is actually based on Kristallnacht and that N9S is merely a force for anti-Semitism. Party members deny such criticism but do cite Israel as their "most deadly enemy".

N9S are critical of the British National Party, whom they view as too moderate and too prepared to compromise their policies. They produce an occasional magazine Britain Awake and have a blog on their website. The party has no copyright, stating on their website, "The truth should be freely available to everyone". N9S has only had sporadic activity since inception (Searchlight claims it has 120 members), although they have become more active since registering as a political entity. On December 17, 2005 and March 20, 2006 they were involved in a demonstration outside the Austrian Embassy in support of David Irving who was awaiting trial in Austria for Holocaust denial, and was subsequently jailed for 3 years. They took part in a similar demonstration on December 20, 2006, the day of Irving's early release, and plan more demonstrations in the future. According to their website they are on a recruiting campaign delivering thousands of leaflets in various parts of the country.

The group prides itself on strong security, and members are encouraged not to reveal their real identities and to communicate in the online chatroom using pseudonyms.

However, the anonymity of several members was shattered in February 2006 when the group became the subject of an undercover investigation by a reporter from British tabloid newspaper the Sunday Mirror. The paper reported how the reporter had infiltrated the group and filmed several members - including Quinn himself - verbally abusing Jewish people in the street, boasting of having committed violent attacks and making overtly racist jokes.

In November 2006, the Jewish Chronicle published an expose of the society, alleging among other things, that the members of the society wear Nazi regalia in private, and are attempting to recruit youths.

The group now also operates under the name the British First Party.
