A Nu is a creature in the Square Co., Ltd. video game Chrono Trigger. Nus are generally blue, with long, stringy arms, small eyes, and a small tuft of green hair. They are always trying to sleep, and can be found in all time periods besides 1999 A.D.
- 65,000,000 B.C.: Nus are found in the hunting range when all the other animals flee during the rain. Additionally, after Azala is defeated, a Nu that can change your party members' names can be found in the burned Laruba village.
- 12,000 B.C.: Nus are "servants" to the Enlightened Ones in the Kingdom of Zeal. More Nus are found in this era than in any other, almost always sleeping. Within a secret room in Enhasa, a book entitled "The Mystery of Life," vol. 841, chapter 26, authored by Belthasar, states "All life begins with Nu and ends with Nu. This is the truth! This is my belief! ...At least for now."
- 600 A.D.: Nus can sometimes be found hiding in the bushes of the Cursed Woods.
- 2300 A.D.: Before Crono's party visits Zeal, Belthasar can be found in the Keeper's dome performing test on a Nu. Eventually, Belthasar programs the Nu with his own consciousness, to help Crono's party obtain the Epoch and mount Death Peak. Once the Nu performs these tasks, it asks Crono to turn it off permanently. Once turned off, the game gives a message saying, "This creature sleeps beyond the flow of time."
- ∞: The final form of Spekkio, the magic trainer, is a pink Nu. This Nu is one of the strongest enemies in the game, with 20,000 HP, very high magic defense, and use of all the game's ultimate elemental Techs. To fight this form, at least one character in the player's party must be at level ** (the level/value immediately after 99, indicating mastery).
Ayla can use her "Charm" tech to steal a "Mop" from a Nu. Crono can equip the mop, which is even weaker than Crono's starting weapon. Nus use two attacks - one that brings its target to 1 HP instantly, and one that inflicts only one HP of damage. Neither attack can defeat the player on its own, but together they are deadly. Party members that defeat a Nu earn 30 tech points.
The Nu also appears as one of two central characters in the Chrono Trigger OVA Nuumamonja: Time and Space Adventures.
