Oblivion Virus

The Oblivion Virus is a fictional Virus from the video game Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion. The player encounters victims of this virus in the first level of the game, after having a person who helped you escape the sewer was attacked and split in half by one of these creatures.
The virus is introduced into the air when Oblivion attempts to punch a hole into the player's universe, and it begins to infect the dead and the dying, causing horrific mutations.
After a person is infected, they begin to exhibit the qualities shared by zombies, they begin to attack living people and start feeding on them. But this is not the worst of it. Eventually the virus will alter the genetic structure, transforming them into a large spider-like creature with the ability to use a long-ranged acid attack that causes damage to the player's health.
Relatively weak on their own, the creatures don't really pose a threat and can be defeated by a simple Bow and Arrow. But in groups, they can cause mass destruction very quickly.
People are not the only ones affected by the virus; animals such as dogs can be infected, carrying the same acid attack as the spiders, and are very aggressive and hard to kill. They hunt down their victim, and injure them enough for the spiders to come and finish the job.
Even after the player defeats the Oblivion Gunship, the portal is still open, and the virus continues to spread. It is unknown what other mutations happen to the people during the game. It is, however, assumed that they suffer even more horrible mutations than the spiders.
